Frequently Asked Questions
Windows
Q0: Where is the documentation?
A0: Documentation is available in pdf format in the install directory. Use Acrobat Reader 5.0+ to view the documentation.
Q1: What version of the Windows does the software work with?
A1: Windows2K, WindowsXP, Windows Server 2003.
Q2: How do I install the software?
A2: Insert the CD-ROM. If autoplay does not automatically launch setup, browse to the CD using explorer and double click on setup.exe. If you have downloaded from the web, run setup.exe, select the product and platform and install.
Q3: What about ASPI?
A3: We do not use ASPI and have not for several years.
Q4: How common is the code base between the Windows and Unix platforms?
A4: The majority of the code is written and tested first under Windows. We emulate the Windows GUI code on our UNIX versions so that the code base can be recompiled directly, and executables can be quickly updated with bug fixes found on either platform. Minor emulation discrepancies on the UNIX side may occasionally cause problems, particularly with the non-thread safe nature of X-Windows.
Q5: Can scripts be shared between Xmfg versions for Windows and Unix?
A5: Yes, the script engine is virtually identical between all of the platforms. Minor discrepancies in implementation may exist.
Q6: What devices are used in the bus probe?
A6: Our products work with all device types.
Q7: I'm still having problems, who can I talk to?
A7: You can email our technical support team or call (508) 278-3600. Hit 3 at the attendant and describe the nature of your problem. The call will be redirected to someone that can most effectively handle it.
